A brief history of the 'Wye Knot'

In 1815 John Gwillim and his wife came to Llyswen and became the tenant of "a dwelling house, shop, 2 cottages and gardens" at Tredegar Row, and worked for the Squire at Llangoed Hall. The Griffin Shop was part of Tredegar Row which was owned by Lord Tredegar. Here too was a thriving Welsh Craft Shop for some years until it became vacant, when eventually Mr Auberon Pitt opened it as a cafe and pottery. After his death it remained a cafe and pottery with Annette Claire also a qualified potter.

More recently, it has been known as 'The Copper Kettle Tea Room' and became known as the 'Wye Knot Stop' in 2003.
